Are you a young councillor wanting to connect with other like-minded people in the sector?
The VLGA is establishing a Young Councillors Network which is open to all Victorian councillors aged 40 years and under.
One of the VLGA's key priorities is to improve diversity and inclusion within local government and encourage good governance and active participation.
In line with these aims, the VLGA is establishing a social and professional network for young councillors where they will have access to professional development and training, as well as the opportunity to network and share ideas and challenges with their peers.
VLGA Chief Executive Officer Kathryn Arndt said the intention was for this group to be a forum for ideas and action.
“We know that diversity in the council chamber inevitably leads to strengthened and more informed decision making,” Ms Arndt said.
“We seek to empower this generation of young councillors with the tools and knowledge that they need to lead change in their communities.”
“It is our hope that by supporting this generation of young councillors, we can encourage new generations of young people to run for local government in the future.”

Registration is free for councillors at VLGA member councils.
