Recent changes to the Local Government Act 2020 have resulted in changes to the wording of the oath and affirmation of office incoming councillors are required to take after being elected.
As a member-run and independent organisation, we are the peak body for Victoria’s councillors, with a proven track record of supporting councils to change culture, improve conduct and deliver positive outcomes for their community through good local governance.
We are also well-placed to help councils and councillors successfully navigate the new governance and integrity reforms which came into effect on October 26, 2024.
Under section 30 of the Local Government Act 2020, a person elected to the position of councillor can not take up that position until they have taken the oath or affirmation of office.
