When a councillors’ time as an elected representative ends this doesn’t mean their connection to the sector and the VLGA has to.
Many former councillors continue to have a strong commitment to community and are seeking opportunities to remain connected to local government.
VLGA CEO Kathryn Arndt said former councillors have a depth and breadth of knowledge that adds significant value to the sector, long beyond their time as an elected representative.
“In recognition of this, and to strengthen our ongoing support for former councillors, the VLGA has launched an Alumni program open to anyone who has held an elected position in local government”, she said.
“The VLGA Alumni allows former councillors to share knowledge and experiences, act as sector ambassadors and build and maintain strong connections with former colleagues.”
By becoming a VLGA Alumni, former councillors will have access to VLGA programs and special Alumni networking events, as well as the opportunity to participate in forums and share key learnings and insights to inform sector advocacy.
They will also be able to keep up to date with local government news and participate in VLGA events and professional development opportunities at a special VLGA Alumni member rate.
Annual membership to the VLGA Alumni for 2025 is $125 (ex GST).
