2 April 2009 - Working with the new Conflict of Interest requirements
The new Conflict of Interest requirements are in place. We all know how important it is that governance is accountable and transparent. Ensuring that conflicts of interest don’t impact on decision-making is critical.
But we also need to govern. We are all involved in our communities and as such have many different interests, some connected to our Council roles and some not. How do we govern in these circumstances?
The April Leading Edge Forum helped members tackle these issues.

5 March 2009 - The cost & benefits of universal housing
Universal housing is housing designed to be used by all people to the greatest extent possible. Homes incorporating basic accessibility features are liveable for most of the population and accommodate whatever comes along in life easily and inexpensively.
While population ageing is driving measures to increase stock of universal housing in Australia and overseas, many others in the community would also benefit from greater supply of universally-designed housing, with considerable cost savings to government. But there is also concern about the possible impacts on housing affordability of including universal design features in new homes.
The March Leading Edge Forum addressed some of the key issues around universal housing; who it would benefit, what features are necessary for housing to meet a basic universal standard, and the potential cost implications for new housing.
