Role of Working Group

The primary purpose of the Councillor Working Conditions Working Group is to advise the Board on all issues to maximise for the working conditions of councillors.

Members

The VLGA has recently recruited new members for the 2010 working group cycle. New members will be announced shortly.

Submission for the Councillor Remuneration Review Panel

Current Work

  • Monitoring the uptake of Allowances and Support recommended by the State Government in its 2008 Review
  • Seeking clarification from councillors as to other support and advice they may require either from the VLGA or the State Government
  • Measures that can be taken to alleviate the likely financial and social impacts on existing councillors and potential councillors
  • Further research and reviews in the future to shine a realistic light on the changing roles of councillors
  • Countering the image of volunteerism’ and urging others to ‘look through modern 21st Century glasses’ when considering councillor remuneration and support.
