Working and Advisory Groups

Heading
Through its Working and Advisory Groups, the VLGA draws from the expertise and skills of our broad membership to feed into the the work of the Association.
Working and Advisory Groups provide advice to the Board on policy initiatives and potential action on issues. While they operate semi-autonomously, they have no authority beyond that granted by the Board and all actions and behaviours must be consistent with adopted policy as well as our Vision, Mission and Values.

Working and Advisory Groups benefit the board and administration by:
  • Spreading the workload
  • Engaging a wider cross-section of possible views and energies
  • Strengthening the internal democratic governance of the VLGA

Overview of Working and Advisory Group Membership:

  • All members are appointed by the Board or by delegation from the Board by the President and the CEO
  • There should be a good mix of current local government councillors, officers, individual and community members, but no less than three councillors
