Local Governments and Food Security
Local governments have a 'whole of population' mandate and can improve community health and well-being through support for equitable and local food chain systems. Communities need to ensure that shopping, transport and other local amenities do not affect their ability to access healthy food, and to make healthy food choices on a lifelong basis without resort to community services and/or emergency foods.
The environments for food security include the natural, built, economic, social-cultural, and health environments for residents in all neighbourhoods. The Food Security Network (FSN) aims to cover a wide range of interests and to provide topical information for individuals, groups, organisations and governments. The
FSN library and
Discussion Forum provide a comprehensive community resource.
FSN Library
The
FSN library provides many links to Victorian, national and international resources. These links include guidelines for using the FSN, definitions of terms and identification of potential policies, frameworks, and strategies for Food Security. To add documents or links to this library, please contact the
FSN Moderator, Dr Beverley Wood.
FSN Discussion Forum
A key communication channel for the network is its online
Discussion Forum, which provides up-to-date information on news, events, and resources. The Forum also has a search function if you are looking for something in particular. Anyone can view the forum online, but to join the network and become a forum participant, you must
apply to the FSN Moderator for membership.
